Player ratings: Real Madrid 2 – 0 Getafe; League 2022

Carlo Ancelotti called the Getafe game more of a mental test than a physical one. After culminating in the Champions League triumph at Stamford Bridge, Madrid had to refocus on La Liga. There were changes in Ancelotti’s starting XI, with Lucas Vazquez, Marcelo, Camavinga and Rodrygo all coming to the side.

In the end, it was a pretty easy night at the Bernabeu, with Getafe failing to score a single shot on goal. Ancelotti rested key players ahead of Tuesday and Madrid secured another three points.

Military—8: Another complete achievement. The Brazilian gobbled up every attacker in his path and pocketed Borja Mayoral.

David Alaba—8: A staple of Madrid’s build-up game. Had little to defend and so made forays up front, contributing with 2 key passes.

Marcelo—8: The Brazilian had a great game in one of his last games at the Santiago Bernabeu. The conditions of the game meant Marcelo had little to worry about defending, instead being able to combine with Vinicius and Benzema in the final third. Had three shots in total and two of them almost went into the net.

Casemiro—8: Produced a jumphead goal by latching onto the end of an outside of Vinicius Junior’s boot cross.

Fede Valverde—8: A ubiquitous figure in the right hemisphere. Fede made 3 key passes and nearly scored from a 35-yard free kick.

Eduardo Camavinga—8.5: The teenager played a full 90 minutes and gained confidence as the game progressed. He managed a team high of 5 interceptions and was fouled 3 times as Getafe struggled to stop him when he was on the ball.

Vinicius Junior—8: The defining moment of the game was Vinicius Junior’s off-boot assist for Casemiro for the go-ahead goal. The Brazilian has found a second wind in recent games, embarrassing Djene and Damian Suarez on more than one occasion. Finished the game with 4 completed dribbles and 2 key passes.

Rodrygo—8: Was involved in both goals for Madrid. His association with Lucas Vazquez has devastated Getafe. Finished the match with a game high of 4 key passes.

Karim Benzema—6.5: Scored a goal but was ruled out for offside. The team didn’t rely that much on the Frenchman in that game but his influence lingered with 3 key passes and a number of good connections with Marcelo and Vinicius down the left.

Substitutions:

Dani Ceballos—6.5: Got on the ball as best as I could and made 21 passes in 15 minutes with 100% PA, 4 of 4 long balls. One such long ball was a diagonal pass to the back post, which Lucas Vazquez squared for a close 3rd goal.

Gareth Bale—6: Ignored the whistles from the Bernabeu and made a number of good off-ball runs. Linked to a corner of the post but couldn’t get his header on target.

Marco Asensio – N/A: Entered in the 83rd for Vinicius Junior.

Nacho – N/A: Scored for David Alaba in the 86th minute.
