Researchers at Colorado State University’s (CSU) Tropical Meteorology Project predict the next Atlantic hurricane season will include at least four major hurricanes, Reuters reports.
The team of meteorologists forecast overall 19 tropical storms with wind from 63km/hY 9 hurricanes with wind from 119km/h in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
“2022 will be another above-average hurricane season,” said scientist Phil Klotzbach of the CSU Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the National Tropical Climate Conference held in Texas this week.
If this year’s forecasts are confirmed, it would be the seventh consecutive season of above-average hurricanes.
“We’re not seeing any major trends that would lead us to believe we’re going to have an El Niño anytime soon,” Klotzbach said, adding, “If it looks like it’s going to be busy, that’s because it was.” “
According to the CSU researchers, this weather event is not expected to be the main contributor to this year’s tropical cyclone season.
According to the US National Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the average for the Atlantic hurricane season is seven of these phenomena, three of them large, and 14 tropical storms. (RT News)
