As the conflict in Ukraine grabs the headlines of the world press, another war is raging at the heart of the empire.
According to press reports in New York, major crime and shootings increased 37% across the city in March and 44% at the end of the first quarter.
As reported by ElDiariony, March shootings increased by 16.2%, and to date, the NYPD has recorded 332 victims of armed violence in 2022, a 14.5% increase compared to the same period in 2021 and an average rate of almost four shots a day .
All of this is happening, according to the New York Post, in the first 100 days of the administration of the city’s current mayor, Eric Adams, a former NYPD captain who has pushed for the creation of a new anti-gun unit and a return to surveillance under the so-called “broken window” policies, but so far the controversial initiatives have done little to stop crime altogether.
But shootings, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, burglaries, grand larceny and hate crimes are all down from last year.
The wave of armed violence in the city affects child and adult gunmen and victims of all ages. After booming in 2020 and 2021, particularly among young gang members and/or victims, 2022 continues with the same trend and poses a major challenge for incoming Mayor Adams, who is set to deal with the crisis within his own Democratic Party encountered obstacles.
Cataloged by experts as a public health epidemic, armed violence in the United States is one of the main problems currently facing the society, which calls itself the greatest defender of human rights in the world.
