Terry McLaurin caught passes from Dwayne Haskins when the two teammates were at Ohio State, and then McLaurin and Haskins were both drafted by Washington in 2019. McLaurin shared some thoughts on their friendship after Haskins passed away on Saturday morning.
“Devastated is the only word that comes to mind,” McLaurin said wrote. “Dwayne always had a smile on his face and a personality that was 1 on 1. We spoke on the night we were both drafted about how hopeful we were for our future and how excited we were to be able to play and compete together again. I thank God for the memories we shared and the conversations we had. I will miss her so much.”
Though the two were no longer teammates, McLaurin said Haskins, who was 24, was excited about his future at Pittsburgh.
“He was a man trying to be the best version of himself, just like all of us,” McLaurin wrote. “He was looking forward to continuing to fight for his dream and I know, as do those closest to him, that his best years on and off the field were still ahead of him. He was more than a phenomenal footballer who could turn it like I’ve never seen to this day. He was a guy who wanted to win over those around him and see them succeed. He was a man of God and often spoke of his faith. A beloved son, brother, husband, friend and teammate. I am heartbroken and pray that he knew how much he was loved. How much I loved him. I would have given anything to see him win. His legacy on this earth will be felt forever because of the way he lived his life and the way he influenced everyone he came in contact with. Until we meet again brother. Reserve me a spot in that big end zone in the sky where we’ll party again one day.”
