Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Philip both sacrificed their burgeoning careers to serve in the royal family.
Philip joined the Royal Navy from Dartmouth Naval College in 1939 and served with distinction in World War II.
In 1942, at the age of 21, he was one of the youngest first lieutenants in the Royal Navy.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk last year that the role of consort that Philip took on when he married the Queen was “a far cry from the role he would ideally have chosen in the Navy.
He added: “He would probably have risen high if the king’s ailing health had forced him to end a promising career.”
When Meghan met Harry, she was similarly leading a successful acting career.
After struggling in Hollywood for several years, the Duchess landed her big break in US legal drama series Suits.
Meghan starred on the show for seven seasons but was written out of the series shortly before her marriage to Harry.
Ahead of the royal wedding in 2018, she said: “I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter, right?
“And also remember that I’ve been working on my show for seven years.”
Pointing at Harry, she added, “I’m really proud of the work I’ve done there and now, as you say, it’s time to work with you as a team.”
