Nick Saban has jokes.
Not long after Alabama No. 2 defeated No. 20 Arkansas 49-26, a win in which he lost Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young through injury, the Alabama coach wanted no information on the preparation for Jimbo Fisher and Texas disclose BIN.
Although not specifically asked about the issue, he did get his point across with a quip that had the assembled media laughing.
“I don’t know,” Saban said of Young and his backup Jalen Milroe, who played when The Tide hosts the Aggies. “I was going to call Jimbo afterwards and tell him exactly what we were going to do. So if he can hear it in a press conference, I don’t need to call him.”
Saban explained Young had an AC sprain to his shoulder.
TIED TOGETHER: The conversations Milroe had with Young
After opening a 28-0 lead in the second quarter behind two touchdown series from Young and two more from his backup, redshirt freshman Jalen Milroe, Alabama’s offense began to stutter. Arkansas capitalized.
Milroe, who finished just 4 of 9 games for 65 yards and a touchdown, and the Alabama offense were down 1 yards in the third quarter.
Things look different in the fourth quarter.
With only five leads and a third and 15th of his 20, Milroe climbed 77 yards in the Arkansas Five. Three plays later, Jase McClellan hit from 3 yards and the lead was back in double digits.
Jahmyr Gibbs pinned two more touchdowns in the fourth on runs of 72 and 76 yards. He finished for 202 yards and two points on 18 carries.
