Fans of the late Steve Irwin start a petition to save the crocodile hunter INSTEAD of King Charles III
A petition to feature the late Steve Irwin on new Australian $5 bills has surfaced online.
Petitioners Vincent Wu and Kirby Miles are behind the move and have listed the petition on the Australian Parliament Building website.
“No one is more important to Australian culture and identity than Steve Irwin,” the petition reads.

“The Death of Queen Elizabeth II and the Proclamation of King Charles III. raise an important question about the future of Australia’s currency,” it said.
“Nobody is more important to Australian culture and identity than Steve Irwin. Steve is loved by everyone and has become synonymous with the Australian values we hold so dear.”
“He embodied the spirit of camaraderie; He was very fond of Australian wildlife and worked hard for conservation and education, but perhaps most importantly, he’s just a good guy.

“This should not be seen as a step away from the crown, but rather as a step in honoring a beloved Australian hero.
“There is so much more that could be said about Steve, but it comes down to this: we should be honoring a true Aussie hero.
“We are therefore asking the House of Representatives to change the face of the $5 bill to Steve Irwin.”
It comes after the Reserve Bank of Australia issued a major update on the future of the Australian $5 note, which iconicly features the face of Queen Elizabeth II
The move may not prove popular as the petition has only garnered 66 signatures as of press time.
Irwin, known to millions around the world as “the crocodile hunter,” died on September 4, 2006 at the age of 44 after being stung in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary about the Great Barrier Reef .
It comes after the Reserve Bank of Australia issued a major update on the future of the Australian $5 note, which iconicly features the face of Queen Elizabeth II.
