“I’m a big dreamer,” says Ludovick Bourgeois. I like doing visualization, it helps me to further introduce myself and clear my head. The musician will release his third album of original songs on October 7th. baptized dreamer, yes, it is considered by the artist to be his finest work to date. His dream? May this album become nothing less than a classic.
Ludovick Bourgeois can’t wait to introduce Rêveur to his admirers. It must be said that a lot of time and things have happened in his life since the release of his last album in February 2020. The singer and musician has become a father in particular. A happy event that changed a lot in his life and inevitably also in his job.
The perfect time
“I know it’s a cliche to say, but I changed when I became a father,” says the 29-year-old artist. I took the time to stop and look at what had happened, everything that had happened before. I’m fine where I am in my life right now and we’ve been waiting for the perfect time to release this album. It was time!”
The first real return to school after the pandemic marked an excellent time for him to invite his admirers to “a real real album launch with a band like before”. The event will take place on October 6th at Club Soda and is open to the public; an important element for the singer, who has had the support of loyal admirers since his debut and victory on the show La Voix in 2017.
Rêveur was developed between the summer of 2021 and early 2022 and has been in the works for quite a while. The title stuck with this record, which the singer describes as very different from what he had offered with his previous two albums.
“The sound is different, I’ve gotten older, there was the pandemic, I had my daughter, I wanted to delve into issues that affect me more,” he continues. We see an evolution in the words, in the music, but without distorting me too much.
Far from being confident despite the pride of a job well done, the artist and son of the late singer Patrick Bourgeois tells himself every time he releases an album or a song that it could be the last or the last .
“I keep questioning myself,” he says. Maybe that’s my forte? Sometimes it’s hard, but it prevents me from feeling good.
On this new album, every song is a little story in itself. Short stories where Ludo (for friends) explores themes of love, resilience, mental health or simply taking the time to talk to his now one-year-old daughter.
“It’s a ballad about what I’m going to do for her,” he breathes. It is the only piece with a piano part on the album. It’s very simple – because I’m not a pianist [rires] – and balder.”
electro sounds
The other songs are more like “big productions combining pop and electronic sounds” that several writers and various well-known directors have worked on, including Donemo, Patrick Bouchard and Benjamin Nadeau. People whom the singer-songwriter (who is involved in each of the songs) says he fully trusts.
The Rêveur piece remains his favorite for the music, the style and the message it conveys.
“I wanted to say, OK, it’s been difficult, but can we just dream of something else together? Because dreaming is good for your health. It’s a song I’m proud of.”
What is Ludovick Bourgeois most looking forward to at this moment in his career? Finding himself on stage and reliving the touring life that makes him vibrate.
“Rêveur was really created as a show,” he explains. I always think about it when I’m making an album, because for me a record is a calling card to be able to perform on stage. This album is very much like me and I’m excited to bring something new to the world. Then you always hope it will be the greatest thing you’ve ever done. But we can’t know that beforehand.”
