Today the world is celebrating Nonviolence Day to mark the birth of India’s famous independence fighter, President Nicolás Maduro wrote on his Twitter account.
“In Venezuela we support peaceful forms of social activism and promote peace, understanding and dialogue as the only way to resolve conflicts,” said the head of state.
Also with Gandhi’s sentence: “There is no way to peace, peace is the way”, the Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino paid tribute to the fighter for non-violence in the same social network.
This is how we remember the 153 years of the birth of the Hindu Mahatma Gandhi, Defender of Justice, called the military high command.
“We pay tribute to his fight for human dignity, which continues to be a source of inspiration for our peoples,” he said.
With resolution A/RES/61/271, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared October 2 as a day of non-violence in honor of the Indian lawyer, thinker and politician.
On this day, the UN calls on all its member states, the regional and non-governmental organizations of its system and individuals to appropriately celebrate nonviolence by spreading messages of reflection and conducting educational activities and raising awareness of public opinion.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar in 1869, was murdered in New Delhi at the age of 79 and is regarded as the most relevant figure on the Indian social and political scene in the first half of the last century.
