War in Ukraine: Russia has mobilized and equipped its new nuclear submarine Belgorod "Torpedoes

According to the Italian daily La Repubblica, NATO has warned its member states against the deployment of the Russian nuclear submarine K-329 Belgorod, which carries the Poseidon nuclear missile.

The longest submarine in the ocean, the Belgorod, which was delivered to the Russian Navy in early July, is currently in Arctic waters after possibly being involved in the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, according to La Repubblica.

NATO fears that the Belgorod’s next mission, 184 meters long, 18 meters wide and 9 meters high, will be to test the super-powered Poseidon torpedoes, also known as “apocalypse torpedoes”. The latter would be 24 meters long, 2.5 meters in diameter and weigh around 100 tons.

Equipped with nuclear propulsion and armed with a nuclear warhead, they would have a range of almost 10,000 kilometers, reports L’Express. Equipped with a nuclear charge, the Poseidon torpedoes could hit near the coast and trigger a “radioactive tsunami”.

The Poseidon torpedo was presented in 2018 as a “means of securing its military supremacy” by Russia, which last week waved the nuclear threat with the voice of Vladimir Putin. “It is a completely new type of weapon that will force the Western Navy to change its planning and develop new countermeasures,” said expert HI Sutton in La Reppublica.
