TSE will officially release the results this Sunday (October 2, 2022) at 17:00 Brasilia time
Brazilian voters abroad post images of alleged ballot papers from their respective cities. The official release of the results by the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) does not take place until 17:00 GMT, when voting is closed across the country.
The results can now be checked by the voters in each polling station via the ballot box. The distribution of documents in social networks is not prohibited by electoral law.
“Some media publish the totals from abroad because the ballot papers are posted in the polling stations. In some smaller communities, the mayor, the city council already know that they have been elected because they put their inspectors in the polling stations to count the BUs. It’s easier at polling stations abroad,” said TSE President Alexandre de Moraes on Sunday (October 2, 2022).
It is worth noting that the ballot boxes bring the results of a single section. Therefore, in most countries it is not possible to know who received the most votes.
As of 12:00 p.m. this Sunday (October 2, 2022), voting was already closed in 59 countries. Brazilian voters abroad can only vote for candidates for the post of President of the Republic.
According to the TSE, more than 697,000 voters are eligible to vote abroad. Lisbon, Miami, Boston, Nagoia and London are the places where most of the Brazilians who can vote abroad are concentrated. 45,273 Brazilians are eligible to vote in the Portuguese capital. In Miami and Boston, there are 40,189 and 37,159 voters, respectively, voting outside of Brazil.
The ballot boxes are transmitted, received, queued and processed in the TSE data center where they remain until 17:00.
