Russian students pick up teachers’ outbursts against the war and send them to the police. This opens criminal investigations under the new national law banning the dissemination of false information about Vladimir Putin’s special operation in Ukraine. The Washington Post reports that four teachers in Russia recently got into trouble over student complaints. One of them is Irina Gen, a 55yearold professor who said of Russia’s exclusion from a European sports competition: “Unless we behave in a civilized manner, it will always happen. Ukraine is a sovereign state. Also emerging in recent weeks, the newspaper says, has been a list of traitors and enemies of the fatherland released by the Committee for the Protection of National Interests, a group that claims a duty to expose public figures that is “antiRussian” support sanctions. While the government of the Kaliningrad region has sent messages to residents urging them to denounce “provocateurs and scammers” who want to sabotage “the special operation in Ukraine.” And some activists, journalists and politicians have found the word “traitor” painted on the doors of their homes.
