In the face of atrocities committed by the Russian army, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock defends the delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine. “Now is not the time for excuses, it is time for creativity and pragmatism,” she says.
Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock spoke out in favor of delivering heavy weapons to Ukraine. “Ukraine needs more military material – above all heavy weapons,” the green politician said on Monday on the sidelines of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
The gruesome images and horrific horror made it more than clear that Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia, needed additional military support in order to defend itself. “Now is not the time for excuses, now is the time for creativity and pragmatism,” emphasized Baerbock.
The Greens politician did not say which heavy weapons could be delivered from Germany to Ukraine. He only stressed that another 500 million euros will be made available for the delivery of weapons and other military equipment through the so-called European peace facility.

The EU meeting in Luxembourg also deals with an oil embargo against Russia, which the government in Kiev, Poland and the Baltic states has been demanding for some time. Only on Friday did EU states seal an import ban on Russian coal and other sanctions.
