Rio Singer Gusttavo Lima, 33, declared his support for Jair Bolsonaro (PL) during a show in Miami, the United States, on Friday night. After holding up a Brazilian flag and shouting “Mythos” to the public, the sertanejo made the “22” gesture in reference to the voting number of the president who is running for reelection this Sunday.

Bolsonaro posted a video of the moment on Twitter and thanked Gusttavo. “The ambassador and the people have already decreed! (sic) This Sunday is the 22nd for Brazil to walk the path of freedom and prosperity! Thank you Gusttavo Lima,” he wrote.

In addition to Gusttavo, other celebrities have also cast their votes for Jair Bolsonaro. They are: Neymar, Zezé di Camargo, Sérgio Reis, Antônia Fontenelle, Latino, Humberto Martins and Zé Neto, Cristiano’s duo.

Speaking of Zé Neto, the singer caused controversy after he criticized the Rouanet law during a show in the city of Sorriso, Mato Grosso in early May, in addition to sending an indirect message to singer Anitta. “We are artists who are not dependent on Lei Rouanet. Our fee is paid by the people. We don’t have to get a tattoo on our toba to show if we’re good or bad. We just come here and sing and all of Brazil sings with us,” he said.

The statement was in reference to the tattoo Power Girl has on her anus. The singer’s speech resonated on social media, and he said he “didn’t mention anyone’s name” and even apologized that he was “unhappy” at his demonstration. But from then on, speculation began about using public funds from city halls to pay for concerts by country singers. The trigger came when the Public Ministry of Roraima (MPRR) opened an investigation on May 25 into the hiring of singer Gusttavo Lima in the city of São Luiz for R$800,000.

According to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), the municipality has 8,232 inhabitants. Dividing the fee by the number of residents, each citizen would pay the amount of R$ 97 for Gusttavo Lima’s show. After that, further signings of Gusttavo Lima were examined. There are suspicions that some cities would divert funds from other sectors to pay the singer’s millionaire fee.
