The US military claims to have killed one of the leaders and co-founder of the armed jihadist group al-Shabaab, Abdullahi Nadir, in an airstrike in Somalia in the past two days. The Somali government confirmed this and said it was a joint military operation with the United States. Al-Shabaab terrorists have killed tens of thousands of people in attacks since it was founded in 2006.

The killing of Abdullahi Nadir is the removal of a thorn from the Somali nation, local officials said. The government thanks the citizens and international cooperation who facilitated the killing of an enemy of the nation.
Abdullahi Nadir’s assassination comes after weeks of military successes by the Somali government, also thanks to the help of local militants. However, al-Shabaab continued to resort to terrorist raids: last Friday alone, 16 people were killed in raids by the terrorist group.
