Farewell to Pebbles, the oldest dog in the world: In five months he would have been 23 years old

Five months after his 23rd birthday, Pebbles crossed the bridge. On October 3, the Toy Fox Terrier, who held the record for the world’s oldest dog, died.

Born on Long Island, the canine Guinness World Record holder spent her days with her loving family in Taylors, South Carolina. Death came of natural causes and had his owners, Bobby and Julie Gregory, by his side until his last breath.

The world title of Oldest Living Dog had only recently come last May, when he turned 22 years and 50 days: Guinness World Records judges recently named TobyKeith, a 21-year-old Chihuahua from Florida, as the oldest living dog crowned . And reading the news, the Gregories quickly realized their dog was probably older and nominated him for the award.

In her long life, Pebbles gave birth to 32 dogs in three litters, all with her late partner Rocky, who died in 2017 at the age of 16.

At the moment, Guinness World Records hasn’t announced a new record holder for the title, which could return to TobyKeith. Instead, an Australian Shepherd named Bluey, who lived to be 29, holds the title of oldest dog ever.
