Anna Shonda creator Rhymes explains why parts of the Netflix show were “deliberately fabricated”

Inventing creator Anna Shonda Rhymes explained why some of the moments included in the show are not true.

Since the drama was released on Netflix last month, viewers have been wondering exactly where the fact ends and where the fiction begins.

Rhimes, who developed the series about the swindler Anna Delvi, shed some light on why the series changed the truth in a new interview.

Julia Garner plays Delvi, real name Anna Sorokin, in the show. It tells the true story of a 20-year-old socialist who successfully presents herself as a wealthy German heiress under a pseudonym in New York.

Sorokin successfully defrauded her friends and her big banks with hundreds of thousands of dollars before being convicted of fraud and grand theft.

Rhimes told Inventing Anna: The Official Podcast that the show included “some things … that are true that we can’t admit to being true” but that “there are some things that are made up” that she said “covers the essence of who Anna is. ”

“Everything is true until it is in Anna’s world,” she said.

Rhimes added that having a researcher on the show is “extremely important” so that screenwriters have a knowledge base to work on when outlining the plot.

“We were telling a story that was based on facts, so we needed a document to build a comprehensive chronology of events, to dig into little things that we weren’t even sure would matter,” Rhimes said.

“For this particular show, having someone who read every transcript of the process, who pays a lot of attention to every detail of Anna’s life, was really, really important because we wanted to know what we thought. We wanted to know what we were making up; we didn’t want to make things up just because of that. “

Rhimes added: “We wanted to deliberately invent moments against just accidentally inventing them.”
