According to Ukrainian sources, the bodies of dozens of civilians were found in two cities in the Donetsk region, recaptured by the Ukrainian army.
“Several mass graves were discovered in the liberated cities of Sviatohirsk and Lyman,” the prosecutor general in Kyiv said on Tuesday. 34 bodies were exhumed in Svyatohirsk and 44 bodies in Lyman.
Civilian bodies discovered
Some of the bodies exhumed at Sviatohirsk are said to show signs of “violent death”. A total of more than 100 graves were found in a cemetery in Lyman, according to the attorney general’s office. Among the 44 bodies already exhumed is a one-year-old child who was buried with his entire family.
Ukrainian army reconquers occupied territories
The Ukrainian army has recently recaptured large areas occupied by Russia in a counter-offensive. According to Ukrainian information, mass graves and bodies with signs of torture were found in several places after the recapture. The Kremlin denies that Russian troops are responsible for the atrocities.
