Russian rocket attacks on several Ukrainian cities are a “sign of weakness” as Russian troops are being defeated, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday (October 11, 2022).
According to the leader of the military alliance, Russian troops are “giving up territory due to their inability to stop the advance of Ukrainian forces”.
“I think what we saw yesterday (Monday) is actually a sign of weakness because the reality is that (Russian troops) cannot advance on the battlefield,” Stoltenberg said, “Russia is actually losing the battle.”
“The way they can respond is with indiscriminate attacks on Ukrainian cities, hitting civilians and critical infrastructure,” he added.
Likewise, Stoltenberg pointed out that NATO has doubled its naval presence in the Baltic and North Seas, where gas leaks are recorded in the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, which stretch from Russia to Germany.
NATO will hold a ministerial meeting on Wednesday to review its state of nuclear readiness after Russia threatened to eventually use nuclear weapons to defend its territory.
Additionally, next week it will hold its annual nuclear deterrent exercise called Steadfast Noon, an operation Stoltenberg called “routine training.”
