Rio José Bonifácio de Oliveira Sobrinho, 86, suffered a heart attack on a flight between New York and Rio de Janeiro last week. The information comes from Veja magazine. The former head of TV Globo received the first care on board the plane, which had to make an emergency landing in Orlando, USA. He was then taken to a hospital and had a stent (used to open the arteries) put in. Boni is expected to be released from the health station on Tuesday.
Boni told the publication he’s already feeling good and gave details of what happened. “I’ve had a stent put in (a type of tube that’s put in the artery to prevent it from becoming blocked) and I’m going to be discharged tomorrow to go home, actually to a hotel. Because I’m in Miami. But I need to rest and watch. I was on a flight from Orlando to Rio when as soon as we took off I felt some strange reflexes in my eyes and a lot of shortness of breath. Since I’m cautious and always have medication nearby, I was careful. But the crew helped me immediately. I feel very good, there is no need to worry,” he said.
Following the fallout from the news, the pro’s son Boninho spoke about his father’s health via Instagram in the early hours of this Tuesday. “It’s okay! Now it’s just a matter of patience.” The director’s friends reacted to the publication. “Thank God! May God protect you,” said Ary Fontoura. “Phew,” wrote Lulu Santos.
Boni worked at TV Globo for 30 years (19671997) and held various positions. He was one of those responsible for the creation of several programs, including “Fantástico” (1973), “Você Decide” (1992) and the series “Mulher” (1998). Between 1998 and 2001, the professional worked as a consultant for the broadcaster. He is currently a partner at TV Vanguarda.
