People have been waiting for Kyiv for a long time. Ukraine has received its first German-supplied Iris-T air defense system, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov announced in a tweet published on Tuesday (October 11). “A new era in air defense has begun,” he said. “Germany’s Iris-Ts are already there. American NASAMS are coming.”

The Iris-T system has a shield range of 20 km in height and 40 km in width. In June, Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised Kyiv delivery of several of these systems, which he said could protect a major city from air raids.
