Austria is European champion in snowplow driving

A different kind of European championship took place this week at the fire school in Tulln, Lower Austria: the European Snowplow Championship. Nine European countries were present, including Austria, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, France, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Latvia. In the end, ASFINAG employee Manuel Luger from Ybbs’ road maintenance department won the European championship title among the top twelve drivers.

“This competition shows the skills that all employees working in road maintenance must have, whether on the highway or on the state road network”, says the head of the ASFINAG department, Heimo Maier-Farkas. Team Austria particularly stood out this year: the four team members claimed the top four places. Fourth place went to Klaus Enders from the ASFINAG motorway maintenance depot in Lieserhofen, third place went to Tommy Hecher from the Burgenland City Association and Gerhard Vock from the state of Lower Austria took second place.
