While recently discussing security bully Mathieu’s continued agency, we pointed to a team that must never be forgotten in situations like this.
The Aries.
The longer a high-profile player stays in the market, the more likely the Rams are to explore the possibility of a move and maybe try to make it.
It was revealed this week that the Rams had allegedly been in contact with Mathieu. Where it goes remains to be seen. The safety of former cardinals and chiefs have visited the Saints, but nothing seems imminent in New Orleans. He had a virtual visit with the Eagles.
The problem is, after four weeks of free agency, he still hasn’t gotten the offer he wanted. That’s the main reason high-profile players like Mathieu, receiver Jarvis Landry, running back Melvin Gordon, cornerback Stephon Gilmore, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and tackle Duane Brown remain available. They want more than they’ve been offered, so they wait.
At this point, interested teams will likely wait until after the draft to make a move – unless they can use the opportunity to address a specific position in the draft as a final push to get the player to accept the offer on the accept table.
Each of the men listed above can still play football at a high level. It will be interesting to see if they end and when. For the eff the picks/eff that cap rams there is always interest in a tried and tested commodity. Which is why they seem interested in Mathieu.
