SBT and streaming giant Amazon Prime Video have reached a longterm licensing and coproduction agreement between the companies. The station is now making works available on the platform, such as Poliana Moça, the station’s current soap opera, which was included in the catalog this Thursday (13th).
The first 120 chapters have already been made available and more are expected to be added in November. So far, SBT has already aired 149 chapters of the production, which should have around 300. In addition, the companies’ first coproduction work will be the soap opera A Infância de Romeu e Julieta by author Iris Abravanel, which was still airing on the scheduled air date. SBT announced the news in a press release on Thursday evening.
“We already have an exceptional relationship with SBT and through this longterm agreement we are strengthening our ties and paving the way for many joint projects, increasing our investment in local content, with many ideas already underway,” said João Mesquita, Country Manager of Prime Video Brasil.

“For SBT, this is another strategic move that will create many joint licensing and coproduction opportunities. It’s great to have such a serious collaborator who recognizes the importance of local content and the quality and strength of SBT’s productions,” said José Roberto Maciel, President of Grupo Silvio Santos.
SBT had already worked behind the scenes on the production of Romeo and Juliet. Tests were even conducted to end the cast, and the channel raced against time to replace Poliana Moça. The search for a partner is not new because of the production costs.

SBT and Prime Video converged at the same time as Netflix distanced itself. The channel recently partnered with the platform for the sponsorship of Libertadores, in addition to the house’s programs already in the catalogue. Contacting Amazon came after a long relationship with the market leader, who even aired an episode of Stranger Things on the channel in 2017.
In addition to Prime Video, SBT already makes its content available on other streaming platforms
With the deal between Silvio Santos’ channel and Prime Video, SBT is investing in another platform to deliver its content. SBT has already licensed its soap operas to Netflix, with a large audience for the platform, and tops the rankings of the service’s mostwatched products. Titles like As Aventuras e Poliana (2017), Chiquititas (2013) and Cúmplices de um Resgate (2015) continue to run on the Prime Video competitor.

In addition to the content on Netflix and now on Prime Video, there is also SBT Vídeos, a site where the user previously registered for free and watched soap operas, programs and other works on the channel. Newsletters such as Esmeralda (2004), Marisol (2001) and Amor e Ódio (2001) can be viewed free of charge on the platform.
