The appointment with the seventh art of the city of the Basque Country, also known as Zinemaldia, celebrates its 70th edition from September 16th to 24th, to confirm itself as one of the most important in the world. The registration of films was opened back in January, a rigorous selection process that ends on June 20.
For the co-production forum, it requires a minimum duration of 60 minutes and at least 20 percent guaranteed financing. European projects must have an explicit reference to Latin America.
The meeting of this segment will take place from September 19th to 21st as part of the festival and consists of the presentation of the selected projects and “one-on-one” meetings between the producers and directors of the films.
It also considers potential partners and coincides with the festival’s two ‘works in progress’ targeting European (WIP Europe) and Latin American (WIP Latam) productions.
According to the organizers, the festival will select a maximum of 20 projects based on the reports prepared by three experts: the producer Agustina Chiarino and the programmers and members of the selection committee, Esperanza Luffiego and Javier Martín.
The selected projects will decide on three prizes: Best Project Award, DALE! (Development Latin America-Europe) and ArteKino International Award.
Thanks to the Festival’s collaboration with Ventana Sur, the European programs selected in the Forum can take part in the Ventana Sur project and the others that meet the requirements in the next edition of the Marcé du Cannes Film Festival’s Producers’ Network.
As a novelty this year, Zinemaldia announced that the projects registered for the forum can be decided at the co-production Platino Industria Forum, which will take place during the event organized by Iberseries and Platino Industria from September 27th to 29th in Madrid .
Likewise, two of the projects selected in San Sebastián can take part in this new forum.
Since its inception in 2012, the Forum has selected 162 projects, 72 of which have been completed and premiered, 42 of them at festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Sundance, Locarno or San Sebastián.
