According to investigations by the CosnesurLoire gendarmerie, the victim was taking a bath when his mobile phone accidentally fell into the tub while it was being charged. “Accidents of this kind are very rare,” commented Captain Stéphane Landry. But rare doesn’t mean impossible. And in fact, this is not the only similar tragedy that happened in France. According to the National Observatory for Electrical Safety (ONSE), 40 deaths from electrocution and about 3,000 electrical installations are recorded in the transalpine country every year. Last December, a 13yearold girl died in a similar accident in Mâcon, in the SaôneetLoire. In this regard, the Observatory recommends that you charge your devices in nonhumid environments and that you absolutely avoid using a networkconnected device in the bath or shower (even if it is a waterproof phone).
