Former 5-Star OT Amarius Mims is moving from UGA to FSU

Florida State’s offensive line has already received two new acquisitions via the transfer portal this offseason, but now the Seminoles appear to be getting their biggest yet.

Former five-star recruit Amarius Mims, who heavily considered FSU during the recruiting process before eventually signing with Georgia, entered the portal on Monday and is signing with the Seminoles to play 2022, a source said that is close to the situation.

He began an official visit to FSU today.

The 6-foot-7, 330-pounder will be a sophomore this fall after appearing in nine games for the national champion Bulldogs last season.

Mims, who hails from Cochran, Georgia, was ranked by Rivals as the #5 potential prospect in the country and the #1 player in the state of Georgia for the 2021 recruitment cycle.

He had high praise for FSU offensive line coach Alex Atkins throughout the recruiting process

“Of any coach, I probably have the best relationship with Coach Atkins,” Mims told Rivals in September 2020. “He’s a great guy who’s so easy to talk to. I like it a lot and would really like to Just see what the campus is like before I make my decision.

“I also know Coach Woodson (Defensive Backs Coach Marcus Woodson) very well. I knew him from Auburn and we have this strong relationship too. Florida State employees are really cool.”

While Robert Scott appears to have a starting tackle spot for FSU, there was wide-open competition at the other tackle spot this spring. Mims is likely to compete with transfer mates Bless Harris, Darius Washington and others when preseason training begins in August.

FSU previously brought in Kayden Lyles from Wisconsin to compete for the starting center position and Lamar, taking over from Bless Harris, to compete in the tackle.
