Passive electoral register enabled in Ecuador for 2023 elections

Quito, April 14 (Prensa Latina) As of today, the National Electoral Council of Ecuador (CNE) has activated the passive register, which includes those who did not vote in the last four elections held.

The list includes 713,000 45 citizens who did not take part in the 2018 referendum and plebiscite, the 2019 sections and the first and second rounds of general masses in 2021.

Citizens who have not undergone a procedure before the CNE also appear.

The approval of the passive electoral register is part of the timetable for the next section elections and election of the Council for Civic Participation and Social Control (Cpccs) members, scheduled for February 2023.

The new registration increased by about 110,000 people compared to that issued in 2021.

According to the councillors, Guayas is the province with the largest presence in the passive register (199,729), followed by Pichincha (138,123).

Those who want to know if they are part of it can access it through the CNE website and app.

In accordance with the calendar, from that day and for a whole month it is also possible to change the voting address in the various points activated at national level.

Likewise, the registration of resident foreigners has been made possible with the possibility of access to the optional election, for which they only have to meet the requirement of living in this Andean country for at least five years, as stipulated in the Code of Democracy or Electoral Law.

Prior to these activities, the schedule established the declaration of the legislature and the closure of the zoning and territorial organization, which was completed last Sunday.

In partial elections, voters choose the prefects and vice-prefects, mayors, city and county councilors, as well as the members of the Rural Parochial Boards and the Cpccs advisers.

Possession of the new authorities will be on May 14, 2023 as determined by the Constitution and the law.
