Brazil’s PT approves Lula Alckmin formula for election paper

The National Directorate of the Workers’ Party (PT) this Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as candidate for the presidency of Brazil, along with former Sao Paulo governor Geraldo Alckmin as vice-presidential candidate, from before this year’s elections.

According to the PT release, despite the demonstrations against the former governor of Sao Paulo, it was passed by 68 votes in favor, while 13 MPs voted against and three abstained.

Likewise, articulation between the party of candidates for the presidency of Brazil, the Brazilian Communist Party (PCdoB) and the Green Party (PV) was approved in a front that must be maintained in the elections and in the National Congress. At present, those wishing to join must remain in the alliance for at least four years.

With around 90 supporters present at the virtual session, the charter of the new party federation was adopted, subject to the decision of approval or rejection by the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE).

For her part, the national leader of the Communist Party, Luciana Santos, said: “We continue to make history!”, pointing to the fact of the communion between the Brazilian parties.

“A fact that we have been fighting for for more than two decades and that will contribute to democracy and the programmatic unity of the party system in Brazil,” said Pernambuco’s Deputy Governor.
