Tourism Italy’s bathing operators want a longer bathing season

Temperatures around 30 degrees bring Italians and tourists to the beach, despite the advancing autumn. The Association of Operators of Lido Assobalneari called for the extension of the bathing season until the end of October. As for decades, classes must start on October 1, instead of the beginning of September as before, demands the president of the association Fabrizio Licordari.

“We have to create the conditions to extend the bathing season, for example by postponing the return to school. At these temperatures we can keep the changing rooms open. This is important for tourism and for our economy”, underlined Licordari.

“If it is true, as scientists say, that Italy is becoming a ‘tropical’ country, then the bathing season must be extended,” said the federation’s president. Tourism must be “supported not just with words, but with deeds”.

Licordari expressed hope that someone with experience would be named Italy’s new Minister of Tourism. “The choice should not be made on the basis of party calculations, but on the basis of competence and experience in this sector”, emphasized Licordari. The new government could take office in Rome by the end of this week. (apa)
