Maurizio de Sousa it is part of our childhood. If you haven’t enjoyed the adventures of Monica’s Gang in your whole life, throw the first Samson! The cartoonist was on Saturday 22.10. guest at Altas Horas and cried when he heard the story of Ariane, a guest of the audience who has an autistic son.

On the show, he said he became emotional with a boy he met a few years ago who identified with Chico Bento. From there, he suggested that children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) read the comics and try to identify with a character.

“I have met some autistic children. I was in the studio and a 5 year old boy walked in dressed as Chico Bento. Very happy, spoke to his parents in a slightly different way but talked. The parents said that he took the comic book and positioned himself as Chico Bento, he spoke with Chico Bento’s accent, dressed like him and started communicating from there. This hit me with a discovery, I started proposing to everyone who Had children with autism to read a comic book and find a character that would dress the person,” he explains.

The writer couldn’t hold back tears as he later reconnected with the boy:

“Then he came back to the studio strong, without Chico Bento’s clothes, at the age of 13, growing up and drawing beautifully and especially the colors, something I had never seen before. I saw it again and practically had a normal life, communicating well, drawing better and better. This experience gave me the opportunity to create André. It’s something we do with all taste and delicacy.”
