Intruder shot at NC rapper DaBaby’s home after trespassing, 911 calls say :: WRAL.com

Troutman, NC — 911 calls released in a shooting at the home of North Carolina rapper DaBaby near Charlotte on Wednesday night show one person was shot for trespassing.

Police have not charged DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, with the shooting. Authorities confirmed that Kirk was home at the time of the shooting.

The gunman called 911 to say he shot and killed an intruder Wednesday night.

“I shot him in the leg,” the 911 said. “He has trespassed on my property.”

Officers found the victim at Kirk’s home and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said the person who was shot was not from the area and was not a guest at the property.

“Like any other property owner, you have the right to secure your property and make sure no one comes in,” said Troutman Police Chief Josh Watson.

911 calls released to WCNC have been redacted and the caller’s voice has been changed.

The home, located in the small town of Troutman north of Charlotte, is surrounded by a high concrete wall and security gate. “No Trespassing” and “We Have Guns and Shovels” signs are posted around the property.

DaBaby recently made headlines after making derogatory comments about gay men and HIV during a performance at a music festival in Miami. He is also known for working with Charlotte-Mecklenburg police in 2019 after being arrested on minor drug charges.
