Riverdale star KJ Apa and 1883 actress Isabel May have snagged the lead roles as the Alien siblings in The Wonder Twins, a live-action DC comedy for HBO Max.
Apa will play Zan and May portray Jayna.
While the storyline is kept under wraps, Jayna is known for her ability to transform into an animal, while Zan is a shapeshifter of sorts. The characters debuted in The All-New Super Friends Hour by Hanna-Barbera and then appeared on The World’s Greatest Super Friends, Super Friends, and Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show.
Her Story: Hailing from the planet Exxor, Zan and Jayna were informally trained by the DC Super Heroes. In a 1977 Super Friends comic book by E. Nelson Bridwell and artist Ramona Fradon, it is further detailed that the twins were orphaned during a plague and adopted by the alien Exorians. Along the way, they get Gleek as a pet. After learning that the villain Grax is about to destroy Earth, they travel there to warn the Justice League. They eventually fit into life on Earth as Swedish exchange students and attend Gotham City High School. The Wonder Twins have made guest appearances in other parts of the DC Universe over the years, including the TV shows Smallville, Teen Titans Go! and The Flash.
Black Adam and Rampage co-writer Adam Sztykiel makes his directorial debut with the popular DC Comics IP, from a screenplay he wrote. Production is slated to begin this summer in Atlanta. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey’s Temple Hill are producing.
Apa is known for playing Archie on the CW/WBTV series Riverdale. His feature films include the films Songbird, The Hate U Give, A Dog’s Purpose, and I Still Believe. He is represented by UTA, Matt Luber and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. May plays Elsa Dutton in Paramount+’s Yellowstone prequel series 1883. Her series credits include Alexa & Katie and Young Sheldon. It is led by Coronel Group and attorney Patty Felker.
