Addis Ababa, October 27 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia will resume repatriations of migrants surviving in extreme conditions in Saudi Arabia in about two weeks, according to a foreign ministry announcement released today.
According to the notice, a committee made up of representatives from 16 institutions has resumed its efforts to ensure the legal, orderly and safe return of citizens following a temporary suspension of their work.
Among his duties, he adds, he visited shelters built to support the return process, where he assessed the provision of basic services, training and employment opportunities that returnees have access to.
So far, as part of the migrant protection measures, more than 71,000 Ethiopians have returned to their country, most of them unemployed, in illegal situations or detained in this Arab country, according to the ministry.
After a hiatus of several weeks, the repatriation began on March 30 after consultations between the missions of both countries, which in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, finalized all the logistical and legal details of the process.
In addition to reuniting the returnees with their families, the authorities, in cooperation with various organizations, are striving for their reintegration and rehabilitation according to their abilities and qualities.
According to official reports, about 750,000 Ethiopians live in Saudi Arabia, of which 300,000 have legal status and another 450,000 have no documents or are in dire situation due to various circumstances.
