After rekindling the internet’s collective passion for dragons and bad things happening to people around dragons, HBO is now shutting down the offering for more than a year. This is per Vulture, who recently had a chat with network executive Casey Bloys, who revealed that you shouldn’t get your hopes up for a second season of Game Of Thrones spin-off House Of The Dragon in 2023.
“Don’t expect it in 23, but I think sometime in 24,” Bloys said during a much longer interview that focused on the show’s recent success as a hybrid of streaming and linear television. (Among other things, Bloys claims that moving the show into the old Game Of Thrones timeslot created a much stronger “dates TV” sentiment, even among HBO Max viewers.) Discussing return dates, the network executive was vague , but insisted he wasn’t shy, saying, “We’re just starting to put the plan together and just like last time, there are so many unknowns … They don’t want to say he’ll be finished by that date.” will, and then you must move it.”
Bloys hasn’t been straighter about questions about a second Thrones spin-off that have been floating around since the network released a broad canvas for possible sequels to the hugely successful series a few years ago. (At least one project before House got to the pilot, Bloodmoon, only to be turned down by HBO.) RE: A possible spin-off, which could also avoid the delays, Bloys just said, “I’m trying not to comment too much about the development, so there’s not much to say except when we find the story that George [R.R. Martin] satisfied and we are satisfied, we will continue.”
