Tragedy in the Itaewon district, the South Korean capital’s nightlife district, where thousands of people had gathered to celebrate
About 50 people went into cardiac arrest and at least 81 people called 911 claiming they were having trouble breathing.
Those affected by the disease were in the Itaewon District, famous for its restaurants and nightlife. Authorities estimate around 100,000 people were in the area to celebrate the first unrestricted event since the pandemic began.
According to some local media’s reconstruction, the chaos could have been a celebrity’s presence at a club in the area, where young people started rushing and overpowering each other.
