Jameson Williams an option for WR-needing jets

As part of The Post’s preview of the 2022 NFL Draft, we examine what the Jets could do at each position. Today: wide receivers Next: tight ends.

It feels like a certainty that the Jets will draft a wide receiver early on unless Joe Douglas can strike a trade before the draft arrives.

Douglas made a big hit at Tyreek Hill last month but didn’t make the connection and now Hill is with the Dolphins. But Douglas showed how badly the Jets want a gun for Zach Wilson by simply being in the running for Hill. He also explored other options on the trading bloc such as Amari Cooper and DK Metcalf.

The Jets could use either of their two first-round picks on a receiver. USC’s Drake London and Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson are considered the top receivers by most draftniks. It definitely feels like the Jets could call up one of them for 10th and maybe even 4th overall. The Jets haven’t drafted a wide receiver in the first round since Santana Moss in 2001.

A first-round wildcard is Alabama star Jameson Williams, who would have been the No. 1 receiver in that class had he not torn the ACL in his left knee in the national championship game. Now the question is how patient will a team drafting Williams be. Can it wait until he’s ready to play mid-season and maybe not have an impact until year 2?

The Jets don’t feel like a team that can wait for their first-round picks to have an impact, so Williams feels unlikely for them, but it will be an interesting decision for Douglas.
