Alexander (2004)
Like many actors, Colin Farrell started out on television and we first saw the Irishman in 1998’s Ballykissangel. The following year he appeared in The War Zone. His American career started in 2001 with “American Outlaws”. In 2002 he starred in the credits of Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report and then Joel Schumacher’s The Cabin, who re-engaged him in Veronica Guerin, with Cate Blanchett, released in 2003. With his roles in SWAT Elite Unit and Daredevil, starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, takes him on a foray into the box office action film. As it’s about time for him to wear a feature film, Oliver Stone entrusts him with the lead role in the movie ‘Alexander’ (2004) — for the record, he’s rumored to have had a romantic relationship with Angelina Jolie. Unfortunately, the film was a resounding flop, losing around $70 million. On the other hand, Michael Mann’s 2006 film “Two Cops in Miami,” in which he plays James Crockett, paid off and has since become a cult hit.
“In Bruges” (2008)
After his stint with Woody Allen, Colin Farrell gets one of the two lead roles in In Bruges, Martin McDonagh’s first feature film. This independent production hit the mark and his performance earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical. We then see him in a number of independent productions, including “Ondine” or the extraordinary “Crazy Heart”. In addition, director Terry Gilliam gave him a part in the role of Heath Ledger when he died in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus in 2009.
“Vampire, did you say vampire?” (2011)
Colin Farrell becomes a murderous neighbor in this horror comedy. A few months apart, he’s also “Bad Bosses” with Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston. He then reprises the role of Douglas Quaid, previously played by Arnold Swartzenegger, in the 2012 remake of the classic Total Recall.
“Saving Mr. Banks” (2013)
Disney Studios offered him the opportunity to star as the father of the “Mary Poppins” author in a family drama and he would work again with Mouse Studios in 2019, this time with Tim Burton on “Dumbo”. In 2016 he was also part of the film series ” Fantastic Beasts”, which did not prevent him from shooting almost simultaneously under the direction of independent filmmaker Yórgos Lánthimos for “The Lobster”, which won the jury prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The actor was also nominated for a Golden Globes, while two years later, The Killing of the Sacred Deer won the Screenwriting Award at the Croisette.
“The Batman” (2022)
Colin Farrell finally explores the universe of Gotham’s Batman in more detail in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as he embodies the penguin-turned-gangster here. Blurred by makeup, he described the process. “It took six or eight hours and about 12 people worked on it. while all [me maquillait]I felt overwhelmed as I believe anyone would have been in my place.
