After their record-breaking flight, three Chinese astronauts landed back on Earth. The capsule, carrying astronaut Wang Yaping and her two colleagues Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu, arrived in the Gobi Desert in the northwest of the country on Saturday morning (local time). The landing was broadcast live on Chinese state television. The return flight from the space station, which is orbiting about 400 kilometers above Earth, took just over nine hours.

record in space

The taikonauts spent six months aboard the central module of the future Chinese space station. The crew of the “Shenzhou 13” (Magic Ship) stayed in space longer than other Chinese astronauts before them – nearly double the previous Chinese record last year.

During their stay in space, the Taikonauts performed two spacewalks, performed a whole series of experiments, and prepared the expansion of the space station known as “Tiangong” (Palace of Heaven). Wang Yaping was not only the first Chinese astronaut aboard the central module known as “Tianhe” (Heavenly Harmony), but also the first Chinese woman to undertake a spacewalk.
