On Wednesday morning (2), Presidentelect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) posted books and films on his Twitter profile for those unable to enjoy the holidays while traveling amid the coup protests in the streets. The TN listed two books among his favorites and one movie.
The books nominated by President Lula were Torto Arado, an editorial phenomenon written by Itamar Vieira Junior, who won Leya, Jabuti, and Oceanos awards for his work. And the second book was “Um Defeito de Cor” by Ana Maria Gonçalves, which won the Casa de las Américas prize.
The epic novel “Torto Arado” tells the story of two sisters in the Bahian hinterland who grapple with ancestry and racism and by winning two awards in 2020 sold more than selfhelp books and investments.
Written by Ana Maria Gonçalves, the book tells the story of an old African woman, blind and on the verge of death, who travels from Africa to Brazil in search of a lost son. In addition, she tells her life, shaped by death, rape, violence and slavery.
Since not everyone can take a road and travel this holiday, the #TeamLula I would like to recommend two books, one of President Lula’s favorite books. pic.twitter.com/6LZYhlnmDn

The film proposal is “Que Horas Ela Volta?”, in which the presenter and actress Regina Casé plays a maid who works in the household of an elite family.
“Anyone who wants a film can remember the time when the children of maids and workers first arrived at the university,” the presidentelect published.
Netizens liked the PT’s initiative and his nominations were widely accepted on social media. On Twitter, the term “Torto Arado” received more than 2,500 mentions.

Torto Arado by Itamar Viera Junior should be read by all Brazilians. Expose Brazil, which at all times tries to hide behind racism and brutal violence! https://t.co/seZIYwA4nt
