the star of Harry PotterDaniel Radcliffe spoke about the author’s transphobic remarks JK Rowling and defended LGBTQIA+ fans. In a letter published on The Trevor Project website, the actor said that “it’s important to go against the writer’s lines.”
“Transgender women are women,” Radcliffe wrote in her open letter. “Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice from professional health organizations who have far more expertise on the subject than Jo. [Rowling] and me.”
Radcliffe added: “To all the people who now feel like their experience is in the books [Harry Potter] clouded or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you. I really hope you don’t completely miss what was valuable to you in these stories.”
Harry Potter has seven original story books that have been adapted into eight films. Currently, the franchise is adapting the Fantastic Beastsderived films.
