Ukraine and Russia have once again exchanged prisoners of war. This time, 107 officers and soldiers from each side were released, as Kyiv and Moscow announced today. Among the Ukrainians were 74 soldiers defending the Azov steelworks in the port city of Mariupol, the head of the Presidential Office in Kyiv, Andriy Yermak, said on Telegram. Among those who returned from the war were some seriously injured with maimed limbs and burns.
The Moscow Defense Ministry, meanwhile, announced that Russian soldiers were in “mortal danger” in Ukrainian captivity. They were taken to Moscow for treatment in military hospitals. Ukraine also assured its soldiers that they would receive any help. In the war of Russian aggression, which has lasted more than eight months, Moscow and Kyiv have already exchanged prisoners several times.
“Many of our people were injured in March,” said Yermak, who also posted a video and photos with some of the freedmen. “The state will do everything to help them.” Among the wounded is a fighter who survived the massive explosion at the Olenivka prison camp near Donetsk in July. According to Yermak, Ukrainian soldiers have been trapped in the Russian camp since May.
