Venezuela on Friday received a shipment of 2.5 million vaccines from Nicaragua under the deal with the Russian Federation, Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry reported.

The new batch of vaccines was received at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía by the Deputy Minister for Health Jesús Brito and the Deputy Minister for Latin America Rander Peña.

It was revealed that the vaccines will be used to reinforce the vaccination program against communicable diseases such as measles, yellow fever and hepatitis.

According to the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the vaccines were developed and manufactured by the Institute for Scientific Research on Vaccines and Sera and the Factory for the Production of Bacterial Preparations in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Under the existing agreements between Venezuela and Russia, the South American country received 1.5 million doses of flu vaccines on December 30, 2019, and 3 million antidotes arrived in Caracas in March 2021.
