With an artistic gala highlighting the cultural traditions of Peru, the nation to which the event is dedicated, the International Crafts Fair Iberoarte 2022 in Holguín, sponsored by the Cuban Fund for Cultural Heritage (FCBC), began.
On the opening day, all exhibitors participating in the fair were welcomed, in particular the more than 50 Peruvian artists who will exhibit and market various pieces and products from the Andean country, such as textiles, Chulucana vessels and Ayacucho altarpieces, among others.
The creators of Peru offered the best of their art, with the interpretation of traditional dances such as the “Morenada”, “Carnaval de Huacanvelica Lircay”, “Carnaval Ayacuchano” and the “Anaconda”.
In addition, they honored Manuel Hernández Ramos, director of the FCBC in Holguín, with a plaque recognizing the work of the fund, which organizes a competition each year in eastern Cuba that represents the best arts and crafts of the region.
Also highlighted was the imprint of the Avilés Orchestra, which celebrated its 140th anniversary this year, conducted by Gastón Allen Birhnan, which is the oldest active group in Latin America, a bastion of Holguin and Cuban musical heritage.
The fair, which will be held until the 20th with more than 70 participants from 11 countries, celebrates the 20th anniversary of the creation of this event, created as part of the Iberoamerican Cultural Festival taking place in October.
Artists from Guatemala, Panama, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Spain and Chile also participate; and on this occasion representatives from the Dominican Republic, Russia and Holland join.
This year it retains its two usual venues, Expo Holguín and the Plaza de la Marqueta cultural complex, and emphasizes the sale of consumer and household products, which are in high demand by the attending public, all in local currency.
As part of this competition, the Lote room will be developed, dedicated to the exhibitions and commercialization of the visual arts, which will pay special tribute to the work of the recently deceased master Cosme Proenza Almaguer.
Lot will have the participation of more than 20 artists in the Fausto Cristo galleries from Uneac headquarters; El Zaguán, in the FCBC-owned subsidiary; and the exhibition space in the lobby of Hotel Pernik.
As part of the Iberoarte program, there are business rounds, fashion shows, children’s activities, concerts, stage presentations and awards in their various guises.
The FCBC in Holguín, one of the most important institutions in the artistic and commercial development of the province, is successfully taking part in the creative and socio-economic movement of the country.
