Joy Reid makes the amazing claim that Americans NEVER heard the word “inflation” until the GOP “taught them” after it soared to a 40-year high under the Biden administration
- Days before halftime, the MSNBC host said GOP officials and politicians “taught” US voters the term inflation before the election
- Reid claimed that the term is not part of the lexicon of everyday Americans, although the number has risen to a four-decade high during the Biden presidency
- Reid and MSNC colleague Nicole Wallace claim that Republicans are fighting inflation without offering any real solutions to fight it
- Inflation, which hit 8.2% in September and was higher the month before, is affecting many Americans’ ability to provide for their families
Controversial MSNBC host Joy Reid has claimed that the word “inflation” is not a standard part of Americans’ “normal lexicon” and that most people who use it learned it from political agents during this mid-term cycle.
Speaking to fellow networker Nicole Wallace, Reid said the “only people I’ve ever heard use the word inflation are journalists and economists.”
The progressive host added that most people “have never used that word in their lives” before this election cycle, which has heavily favored Republicans for a number of reasons, including the bleak economic outlook.
While Reid – host of The ReidOut – argued that Republicans “taught the people about world inflation,” polls ahead of Tuesday’s election have consistently shown that voters’ top concerns right now are inflation, the broader economy and the crime are.
Although inflation in the US is in fact at a 40-year high, this is putting many Americans in a difficult financial position as they struggle to afford rent, basic necessities and food for their families. Reid chose to dismiss the concept, and the word in particular, as an elitist economic concept that would never make it into the minds or mouths of ordinary Americans without the urging of GOP politicians.
The September inflation rate hit 8.2%, a number the Biden administration called “progress.” The inflation rate for October will be announced on November 10th.

Host Nicole Wallace said that while Republicans emphasized the problems of inflation and crime during this cycle, they “haven’t presented their constituents with solutions on either of these issues.”
Wallace may have missed the policies touted by Republican candidates like Lee Zeldin in New York — who has advocated lifting bail-out reform efforts — or Nevada Senate nominee Adam Laxalt’s plan to clamp down on government spending to ease financial pressures reduce to consumers.
Indeed, Wallace was perfectly happy parroting former President Barack Obama’s campaign talking points as Democrats approach a potentially bloody Tuesday night.
Despite the severe financial hardship facing many Americans due to rising inflation and a generally weakening economy, Reid’s take on the issue is: “It’s interesting that Republicans are doing something they don’t normally do, which is not speaking the common language don’t just use ordinary English like they do in their campaigns, like they do in crime.
Despite claiming inflation is a term used only by high-minded reporters and economists, the expert mentioned that the state she lives in, Florida, has become increasingly expensive.
“My family moved here because it was an affordable place to buy an inner tube. No longer. It’s now more expensive to shop in Miami than it is in New York,” she said.
