The Armed Forces of South Korea mobilized warplanes after detecting the presence of 180 warplanes North Korea. The detection and mobilization came at a time when Seoul was engaged in joint military maneuvers with the United States. The South Koreans said they had “sent 80 fighter jets, including the invisible F35A,” and assured that jets are also available to take part in the military exercises. The expansion of South Korea’s maneuvers in partnership with the US comes in response to North Korea, which launched a record number of missiles over the week, including an intercontinental one. After the extension was announced, the Pyongyang regime launched three shortrange missiles and said the decision was a “misguided and very dangerous decision”. Hours later, North Korea fired 80 artillery shells into a maritime “buffer zone.” South Korea’s joint chiefs of staff said the shooting was in “clear violation” of the 2018 agreement that placed this border zone outside of hostilities between the countries.
