Less than a year after his hard-fought victory in the local elections, Bruno Marchand is already as content as his predecessor at the Quebec City helm.

That’s the key lesson from a Leger poll conducted last week on behalf of the Journal and TVA Quebec.
We find that more than two-thirds of voters are satisfied with the mayor’s work and trust him.
satisfaction with the mayor
On a scale of 0 to 10, how satisfied are you with the quality of the work of Quebec Mayor Bruno Marchand?
From November 3, 2022
Somewhat satisfied (6-8)
Not at all satisfied (0-5)
“It’s very good. A year after his election, the mayor is really on solid ground. It’s comparable to Labeaume’s very good years,” said Cyntia Darisse, vice president of Léger’s Quebec office.
Trust Mayor Marchand
Do you trust Mayor Bruno Marchand or not?
From November 3, 2022
Between 2014 and 2021, outgoing mayor Régis Labeaume achieved satisfaction rates between 59% and 69%.
“At 67%, Mayor Marchand really managed to follow in the footsteps of Mayor Labeaume, who was an important mayor and was perceived as a very great mayor. He left a void which Mr Marchand appears to have successfully filled,” added Ms. Darisse.
An enviable price
Remarkably, Bruno Marchand far surpasses the average 56% satisfaction rate of Québec residents with their mayors.
“In big cities, satisfaction rates are usually a bit lower. It’s difficult to reach 50 percent in the greater Montreal area,” the pollster said.
Not so with Villeneuve
The situation is very different for the opposition leader Claude Villeneuve. The latter meets almost 36% satisfied.
In his case, it must be said that 30% of voters either refuse to answer or don’t know what to say to the pollster.
This may illustrate the fact that the Quebec leader is initially relatively unknown to the public, argued Cyntia Darisse.
Like his predecessor, Mayor Marchand seems to have a hard core of opponents.
According to Ms. Darisse, “about one in four people in Quebec is dissatisfied with City Hall”.
“Things are going well in Quebec”
The trade administration may find other reasons to celebrate in the survey.
It says, for example, that 84% of citizens believe that Quebec is doing well.
“The result is impressive. Things are going well in Quebec. There’s still a pride that’s there. People are happy despite the economic context and despite everything that is happening in the world. Quebec is a good city to live in,” said Léger’s spokesman.
