Selena Gomez has a name for the transplanted kidney she received five years ago.

The 30-year-old actress revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that she named the donated organ “Fred”.

“I named it after Fred Armisen because I love Portlandia,” explained the Only Murders in the Building star. “I’ve never met him, but I’m secretly hoping he finds out, just because I want him to say, ‘That’s weird.

The Ice Cream singer was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease, in 2015.

According to Lupus.org, the condition affects the skin, joints, and organs such as the kidneys and liver.

Selena’s friend and fellow actress Francia Raisa, 34, donated her a kidney in 2017.

Gift of life: Selena revealed she received the gift of life from friend Francia Raisa, 34, and wrote on social media:

Announcing the gift of life on social media, Selena shared a picture of herself and Francia bordered on hospital beds, writing a heartfelt thank you.

“There are no words to describe how grateful I am to my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Selena wrote. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, little sister.’

The procedure wasn’t without side effects for the How I Met Your Father actress.

In a July 2022 interview with Yahoo Life, Francia revealed that she had to change her diet, limiting protein intake to three to five ounces at a time and drinking “at least two to three liters of water a day.”

“I can feel the difference when I’m not.” She admitted: “I get nauseous when I’m dehydrated and that’s just not good. I feel clammy.”
