Eight months after toppling welterweight legend Manny Pacquiao, WBA champion Yordenis Ugas will attempt the same against unified WBC/IBF titlist Errol Spence Jr. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas TONIGHT (Sat, April 16, 2022). to do.

Ugas scored the biggest win of his career in August 2021, coming on short notice to defeat the inimitable Pacquiao (watch highlights). He was filling in for Spence that night, but with The Truth’s eye fully repaired, the time has come to crown a three-belt champion at 147 pounds.
Showtime’s main PPV card will also see Lightweight bruiser Isaac Cruz take on faded star Yuriorkis Gamboa, undefeated Jose Valenzuela takes on former champion Francisco Vargas, and Cody Crowley trades hands with Josesito Lopez in what could be an all-out slugfest.

Isaac Cruz vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa – Cruz defeated. Gamboa by TKO at 1:32 of round five
Jose Valenzuela vs. Francisco Vargas – Valenzuela defeated. Vargas by KO at 1:25 of the first round
Cody Crowley vs. Josesito Lopez – Crowley defeated. Lopez by unanimous decision (98-91 x2, 99-90)
IBF/WBC/WBA “Super” Welterweight Championship: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Yordenis Ugas
Round one: Both men body nudge to start. Spence tries a combo. So far, neither has committed too much. Spence looks for a body shot. Half way. He’s the busier of the two with his jab. Counter-body shot by Ugas. Spence body combo, overhand right from Ugas. Nice body shot lands for Ugas and left at the exit. 10-9 Ugas.
Round two: Early jabs from Spence, clinch. Ugas sneaks straight down. Spence has been busier this round so far. send out 1-2s. The right hand catches Spence at the exit. Once again. 1-2 midway for Spence. Inside, they exchange body shots. Big lead straight from Ugas. Spence digs in the bottom left. Hard overhand to the left. Clinch. Spence’s long combo produces some body shots. 10-9 issues. 19-19
Round three: Spence with some decent work inside, tries an overhand left. Counter hit to the left by a body shot from Ugas. Good exchange, heavy left by Spence as Ugas goes to body. Big overhand links from Spence and an uppercut split the guard. Body shots, right hands by Ugas in return. More looping lefts from Spence. Half way. Ugas warned against putting his head down, landing an overhand shortly after. Spence responds with a series of body shots. Uga’s left hook, good fights from both of them. Spence shares the guard with a left, Ugas comes back with a combo. Large overhand rights combine for him. Spence marks his body in return. 10-9, 29-28 issues.
Round Four: Spence continues to be the busier of the two. Good exchange in the middle ring. Land short uppercuts. High-low double left. Spence keeps up the good bodywork. Ugas tries to reply on the break or land in big punches, but Spence’s sheer activity gives him all sorts of problems. Spence infighting midway. Warning of low blows. Trading jabs, tight hook lands for Ugas. Connect body shots. More beautiful bodywork from Ugas. He did a good job late this lap. 10-9 Ugas in a swing round, 38-38.
Round five: Heavy body shots from Spence at the start. Spence once again controls early walking with activity, regularly landing on the body and head. Excellent bodywork and an uppercut behind. Another smooth uppercut inside. Half way. Spence chews it from forehead to forehead. Ugas tries to reply in kind. The body shots and uppercuts piled up for Spence. In return, Ugas rips a right down. There’s a decent combo on top and an upper hand on the right. Counter uppercut. Spence with another bodyshot and uppercut. 10-9, 48-47 issues.
Round six: Spence goes right back inside and gets to work on the body. Ugas is game as hell, but Spence commands it up close. Solid rights from Ugas knock out Spence’s mouthpiece; The referee appears to intervene but doesn’t, allowing Ugas to score Spence for a 1-2. Now they are taking a break to get his mouthpiece back. Half way. There’s a tough streak from Ugas after Spence chews him up in the bag again. Good uppercut from Ugas replied in kind. 10-9, 58-56 issues.
Round seven: Spence continues to punch away at close range. He’s behind those bodyshots a lot. A nice uppercut seems to injure Ugas and Spence tries to lunge, parrying an attempt to clinch. Heavy shots from Spence around the guard. Half way. Ugas’ eye is not in the best shape. Ugas seems to have his wits, but Spence just keeps marching on and tearing up the midsection. Heavy Combo by Ugas responded in kind. Spence beats him to the bell with more close-range shots. 10-9, 68-65 issues.
Eighth round: Uppercuts and body shots continue to land for Spence. Nasty left below causes Ugas to retreat. Ref steps in to again warn Spence of low blows. Spence is really looking for the kill with these shots. Half way. Spence’s evil left. Rip the head and body. The referee pauses in the middle of a Spence combo to allow the doctor to examine Ugas’ swollen eye. Ugas gets the all-clear, but Spence goes right back to brutalizing him. Hard left around the guard. Ugas comes back with an overhand right. 10-8 Spence with no knockdown, 78-73.
Lap nine: Ugas is brave as hell, but that’s a wrecking job at this point. Spence just won’t stop throwing and landing full power shots to the head and body. Ref pauses to warn him again of low blows. Spence clubbing hook. More hooks halfway. Slamming directly into Ugas’ body seems to get Spence’s attention, but he immediately goes back on the attack. Both tear open the body. Ugas shows a bit of life, now he is warned of low blows. Solid at the top. 10-9, 88-82 issues.
