NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) — More than 10 years after a Five Alarm fire destroyed its Faubourg Marigny factory, New Orleans institution Hubig’s Pies is back.
Owner Andrew Ramsey announced that Hubig’s Pies will be available in limited quantities at local New Orleans stores starting Monday. A limited amount of apple and lemon pies were available Sunday at a pop-up tent in the parking lot of Hancock Whitney Bank’s Carrollton branch (1324 S. Carrollton Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until they were sold out.
“I’m thrilled to be bringing Hubig’s cake back to market,” Ramsey said in a statement. “We are grateful for the patience and loyalty of the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. We have received so much goodwill. We encourage our community to continue supporting what they value.”
The company did not initially provide a list of store locations expected to receive goods on Monday. His statement also said cakes could be ordered online from Hubigs.com, but that website appeared unavailable early Sunday.
The hand-held pastries mostly disappeared when the company’s factory at 2417 Dauphine Street burned down on July 27, 2012. Hubig’s had opened in New Orleans in 1921 but closed after the fire. Ramsey acquired the defunct business in 2019, becoming the third member of his family to operate Hubig’s. Small batches of cakes have been sold in Fleurty Girl stores in recent years.

“We use the same recipes and formulas,” he said. “Some salvaged and refurbished machines. Some machines were specially made to replicate what was lost. Pies will be identical in every way.”
The apple and lemon pies are the first to hit the market in the company’s resurgence. Other favorites such as chocolate, coconut, peach and pineapple are set to follow shortly, the release said. And there will be seasonal flavors including sweet potato, strawberry, banana and blueberry, the company said.
“We’ve had the pleasure of rehiring several former employees,” Ramsey said. “We look forward to expanding our team and sales force.”
